Asbestos Consultants NZ is seeking a Trainee Asbestos Assessor / Surveyor to join our growing team in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty. This is a full-time position and is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in the specialist field of asbestos assessment and environmental consulting. You will initially receive comprehensive on-the-job training and work alongside experienced assessors while developing the knowledge, practical skills and competencies required to progress within the asbestos industry. As you become trained, competent and suitably qualified, your remuneration will increase accordingly. This is not a role where you are expected to arrive fully qualified. The role involves working across a wide range of properties and environments, including residential, commercial, industrial and public sector sites. What you'll be doing Assisting experienced asbestos assessors with site surveys and inspections Learning to identify potential asbestos-containing materials (ACM) Assisting with the collection and preparation of asbestos samples for laboratory analysis Recording detailed site observations, photographs and survey information Assisting with the preparation of asbestos survey reports and documentation Learning how to assess asbestos risks and provide appropriate recommendations Assisting with asbestos registers and management plans Working with clients across residential, commercial, industrial, insurance and government sectors Maintaining accurate records and following company procedures and health and safety requirements Using specialist equipment and technology to complete fieldwork and reporting Developing the knowledge and practical experience required to progress towards becoming a competent and suitably qualified asbestos assessor Working as part of a close-knit team while progressively taking on more responsibility as your skills and experience develop What we're looking for We are looking for someone who is genuinely interested in learning a specialist trade and building a career with our company. You will need to: Be reliable, punctual and professional Have a strong willingness to learn and develop new skills Have excellent attention to detail Be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team Have good written and verbal communication skills Be physically capable of carrying out site work, including working at heights and in confined spaces where required Be comfortable working in a variety of environments and weather conditions Be willing to undertake asbestos-related training, qualifications and competency assessments as required Hold a full New Zealand driver's licence Have a clean driving record , including no drink-driving convictions or similar serious driving offences Be willing to undergo police vetting and drug and alcohol testing where required Travel and working hours This is a travel-based role , so applicants must be comfortable spending time away from home when required. Most of our work is throughout the North Island, however there will occasionally be travel to the South Island and other parts of New Zealand. Overnight stays away from home will be required from time to time. The role can also involve early starts, late finishes and occasional weekend work , depending on project requirements. Where these are required, we will provide as much notice as reasonably practicable and discuss the requirements with you beforehand. A willingness to travel and adapt to different working environments is therefore essential. What we offer We believe in training people properly and developing our team from within .
