Job Description
Be the calm presence that helps keep our community safe. We're looking for a professional and community-focused Compliance Officer to join our team based in Waimakariri, North Canterbury . In this role, you'll respond to a range of after-hours incidents, helping ensure Council facilities, public spaces, and local communities remain safe, secure, and well managed. No two shifts are the same. From responding to excessive noise complaints and animal management callouts to attending security alarms and conducting facility patrols, you'll be the face of Council in the community and play an important role in delivering positive outcomes. We are looking for staff to fill both night shifts everyday of the week (1830-0630) and weekend day shifts (0630-1830). Working on a rotating roster. What You'll Be Doing Your responsibilities will include: Responding to excessive noise complaints and carrying out investigations in accordance with legislation and Council requirements. Issuing notices and taking appropriate compliance action when required. Attending animal management incidents, including wandering dogs, stock on roads, animal welfare concerns, and urgent callouts. Conducting patrols of Council buildings, parks, reserves, facilities, and community assets. Responding to alarms and security incidents at Council properties. Gathering information, recording observations, collecting evidence, and preparing accurate reports. Liaising with Council staff, Police, emergency services, contractors, and members of the public. Providing professional, customer-focused service in situations that may be challenging or high‑pressure. What You'll Bring Previous experience in compliance, security, law enforcement, customer service, community safety, or a similar field would be advantageous. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Good computer literacy and administration skills. A full, clean New Zealand driver's licence.
