Matamata-Piako District Council is establishing a new Business Excellence and Risk Team to help drive organisational performance, strengthen decision-making, improve resilience, and create smarter ways of working. We're looking for an experienced and forward-thinking leader to build and lead this new function. About the role Reporting to the Group Manager People and Performance, you'll lead enterprise risk management, assurance, business resilience, and Council's insurance programme, while providing strategic leadership for organisational performance and improvement. You'll lead and grow a capable, high performing multidisciplinary team spanning procurement, legal counsel, organisational performance and improvement, business support services, fleet, property, and business process management. About you You'll be a strategic and influential leader who enjoys solving complex organisational challenges and delivering change across a broad range of functions. You'll bring: Senior leadership experience in enterprise risk, business excellence, organisational performance or a related field A track record of leading organisation-wide improvement and change Experience working with executives or governance groups Strong people leadership and capability-building skills Excellent influencing and stakeholder management skills The ability to balance strategic thinking with practical delivery Most importantly, you'll be motivated by the opportunity to build a new function, grow a high-performing team, and leave a lasting impact across the organisation.
