Job Description

\n

PPR Capital is a private investment group. We back established, profitable New Zealand businesses and hold them for the long term.

\n

We are appointing a General Manager for one of our businesses -- a specialist operation of just under 20 people, with a strong position in the market it serves and customer relationships that in many cases go back well over a decade.

About the role\n

This role is about running a good business well.

\n

You will take day-to-day leadership of the business through a structured, well-supported handover, and be accountable for operations, commercial performance, the team and our customer relationships.

\n

Growth is handled differently here. The owners are building a separate business development capability and will drive expansion in the early years, so you are not carrying a growth target on top of running the business. Over time that function, including sales and marketing with its own head, is expected to move under this role -- so the job grows as the business does.

What you will do\n

Lead the business day to day and deliver consistent operational and financial performance.

\n

Be the senior point of contact for our most significant customers, building on relationships developed over many years.

\n

Strengthen senior coverage across the customer base so every key account is well supported.

\n

Own commercial performance, including pricing and margin.

\n

Maintain our overseas partner relationships, which will involve some travel and real face-to-face time.

\n

Lead, develop and retain a small team of experienced specialists, and continue building capability across the business.

\n

Continue to develop process, systems and reporting in a way that suits a lean, practical business.

\n

Maintain high standards of documentation and regulatory compliance.

\n

Work alongside the owners' business development function and take on the customers it wins.

\n

Report to the board with clear KPIs and open commentary.

What we are looking for\n

A steady operator. You would rather run something properly than reinvent it, and you take satisfaction in a business that works well.

\n

Excellent with people, particularly people you have not met before. Relationships here are earned face to face.

\n

Able to learn a specialised, judgement-led business quickly.

\n

Able to work closely and generously with the current leader through the handover.

\n

Strong commercial judgement and a clear understanding of what drives profitability.

\n

Comfortable with an ownership group that is closely involved and drives growth alongside you.

\n

You build practical process and systems that suit a lean team.

\n

Happy with some international travel as part of the role.

\n

Experience in a relationship-driven B2B business is useful context, but it is not what we are screening on. We are far more interested in judgement, reliability and the ability to build trust.

What is on offer\n

Day-to-day leadership of a profitable, well-established New Zealand business.

\n

A structured, well-supported handover.

\n

A role that grows. The business development function the owners are building, including sales and marketing, is expected to move under this role over time.

\n

An ownership group that is genuinely engaged and committed for the long term.

\n

This is a long-term appointment. The package includes an equity stake in the business, vesting over time, so the person in this role builds a genuine share in what they help create.

\n

NZ$160,000 base salary plus equity participation.

Remuneration\n

NZ$160,000 base salary plus equity participation in the business
